This month we will try a new prize format .

The precision tactical shoot will be divided into three events , bench , prone and obsticle.

Prizes will be awarded for the three events as well as an overall precision tactical winner.

The entry fee remains $5 for the day and you can shoot any or all of the events.

The obsitcle this month will be shooting sticks , they will be provided at the match.

Hope to see you there ,

Sorry that I also connot make it tomorrow even after buying a rifle due to a family committment. I was on the rifle range today working with the new little jewel and confirmed that I am not ready for any competition.

I mentioned the event to several folk at the range and they expressed interest. Hopefully they will make it.

Hope to see all on Sunday for the Zombie affraid eradication.

Saturday was beautiful , but there was a gusty wind to contend with.

There were only three shooting Wayne , Tim Taylor and myself ..... as hoped the reduced competition paid off .

Wayne got side tracked with other business and fell out , Tim had me by 40 pts until we got to two hundred yards where I made my move .

YES ! This is still a monthly event but I would like to see more shooters . It's a young event and hopefully more people will get interested.

    Mike,

I am sure that your shooting ability was what caused you to win and the lack of competition had nothing to do with it. At least that would be my story.

I was having trouble with the MkII drifting on me and made two discoveries. The first was that the bases I had jury rigged to get that 42mm objective off the barrel was way too high and I couldn't get a steady position on the stock. The second was that the action was loose in the stock. I got that tightened up when I noticed it and I just mounted a new set of Waren bases that give me a good hold.

Now I have eliminated all of the excuses except my inability to shoot.

Have you tried any other ammo beside the Dynapoints. I am having trouble getting them to group. I tried some Remington target loads that worked much better. Maybe my rifle doesn't like the Win but a Marlin 60 I had with me didn't either. Any thoughts?

Johnny, Every Savage that I know of likes the Dyna-points, of course it is bulk ammo and match ammo will be more consistant .

I can tell you this , A wise man ( Kevin ) told me not to clean my MKII , I didn't listen and it took me forever to get it back to where it was . It also may take a while for a new rifle to settle in .

I have tried Wolf match and match extra, RWS target rifle, Eley rifle target and club extra, Remington target and a new one for me was Gold eagle ( an eley primed case ) all of these seemed more consistant at 50yds but seemed no better than the Dyna-points out past 50.

You'll just need to find one that your rifle likes I suggest the Dyna-points because they seem to shoot well in most everything and they're relativly inexpensive ( good ammo for beaking in your rifle ) .

My little bit of work on tightening the action and remounting the scope worked wonders for the rifle. As a result I got much better groupings with everything I shot. The Dynapoints and the Rem target were equal in performance and 50 and 100.

Now to the next question. I could not get on paper at 200. I was the only one at the range at the time and couldn't tell where I was hitting but I suspect I was low and couldn't adjust the scope up enough. I have it mounted so that the objective bell is barely off the barrel. The zero point at 50 is about 2 revs from the zero line on the knob.

Any advice? What do you think of shimming the front ring?

    J-

I have a shim under the rear base on mine . I really need two but ,like you I need some taller rings or the scope hits the barrel. I have some shims I made if you would like some .

I'm glad things tightend up for you. Sounds more like a Savage now.

I'll be out at the center fire rifle range around 1pm til 5ish along with Kevin and the reat of the guys if you want to stop by.

Got shims installed and bore sighted. Had to use longer screws. Gun came with 1/4 and had to go to 3/16. I did check the bolt to make sure it didn't bind with the longer screws.

    Thanks again,
    Johnny

How close are you bottoming out the scope now ? You should be real closse to the zero ring on the elevation turret.

    Mike,

Went back to the range this afternoon. The shims work great. My zero at 50 is almost at the scope zero line and 1 full rev + 7.5 on the elevation dial had me on the target at 200. I figure that to be somewhere around +43 min elevation. Does that sound about right?

Unfortunately, I was all over the target initially. After a bit of practice I got my hits to "group" mostly on the right side if you call that a group.

There was substantial wind but the problem is still me.

Rob was there for a few shots with his AR.

    thanks again,
    Johnny

Johnny, Glad you got there, 200yds I mean. The wind at the house is whipping pretty good so if you were repeatably getting on the paper at 200 thats great! I can imagine it was gusty down in the valley.

As far as drop, it depends on the ammo ( velocity ) I think Wolf match is close to 55 inches drop from 50yds to 200 yds (26.3 MOA ).

My AR is supposed to be here tomorrow !!!! So I'll be at the range one day this week. bounce
