I have been reading up on IDPA matches and even had the chance to come and watch the last one at Kettlefoot. It looks like a lot of fun and I would like to shoot in the one coming up this weekend. However, I do have a few questions. I have a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II That came with Crimson trace grips installed from the factory. From reading another post on this forum I assume it's ok to shoot if the laser is turned off? The holster I have is a Fobus c-21B that says on the package it was "designed for concealed carry use". Would this holster be ok to use? How many rounds of ammo should I bring? And finally. Which division would I shoot in? I was thinking Custom Defense Pistol since it is a .45 but I may be wrong. Sorry for all the questions, but thanks to anyone willing to answer them.

If the laser is turned off nobody here at KRGC will probably care. You can remove the laser by replacing the grips, I think.
You will need one mag in your pistol and two mags to reload with.
Your holster should be fine
You will need to have mag carrier(s) for your reload magazines.
You will need about 150 rds of ammo to shoot the match. SOmetimes we re shoot the match and you would want another 150 rounds to go through it again.
Youn would indeed shoot in CDP and just tell folks you are new and they will take good care of you

Thanks for the reply Brian. If I can find one more mag and a mag carrier before Saturday morning I may be out there to shoot.

It is fine to carry spare magazines in your pocket if you don't have carriers for all of them. You pretty much need three magazines to compete. Per IDPA rules, no course of fire should exceed 18 rounds so if you can borrow another magazine, you should be good to go.

I was able to buy another mag today and also picked up a mag carrier, so I should be good. Thanks again for the help.

I would like to thank everyone that made my first IDPA experience an enjoyable one. It seems like everyone I talked to yesterday was friendly and more than willing to help the new guy out with any questions as well as offer up a few tips that are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
