I saw this and it looks like a lot of fun for cheap. Plus we have the ranges for it.

I am quite interested in rimfire tactical matches. I think rimfire matches would encourage skills practice with significant benefits regarding cost and availability of centerfire ammo. I'm interested in both long gun and handgun matches.

DTW, I'm not sure who we would have to talk to ... Wayne ?

I agree reguarding practice and skills . Shooting a 22lr at 200 yards can be challenging especially when there is a little wind thrown in .

I guess it would be best to see how many people might be interested .

You can sign me up for tactical rimfire! Sounds like great practice for less $$$.

rimfire tactical matches Empty rimfire matches

Post  Brian Traynor Fri Feb 27, 2009 7:02 pm

I would defintiley shoot a pistol or rifle rimfire match.

I would limit the rifles to something that takes a magazine, so they could be cleared safe easy.

I would encourage not having a reload as part of a stage. I think most rimfire rifle and pistol mags are expensive and delicate. I dont want to drop my Kimber 22 mags on the ground. I dont want my black dog machine 30s getting stepped on.

You could run 20 or 25 round stages with rifles. ten to fifteen targets per stage.

Maybe seperate optics and irons into two classes.

10-22s, remington 597s, ARs with adapters, and the super cool GSG-5 would all work. A guy with a 10-22 and a hicap mag or two could compete cheaply. I think we would get to see some tricked out ARs also.

Lots of head shots, maybe some miniture steel (rated for .22)bowling pins on railroad ties, whatever, Id be in.

Ditto on pistol matches. I guess if you reload with retention with your hand gun you would be in good shape.

While the GSG's are very tacticool looking I seriously doubt they would be effective out to 200 yds.

Take a look at the link in the original post, this is what I was thinking.

I looked at the link you posted, Im not interested in a .22 precision rifle match out to 200 yds.

I think I was mistaken here. But if it floats your boat, git er done

I'm really talking about running around in the pistol bays and shooting around barricades and shooting at reduced sized steel and USPSA paper targets.

I was talking pistols and/or carbines

I'm sure I could use the practice out to 200 but when I run a subcaliber kit I shoot out to 25 yds at small targets for practice.

I have shot my .22 kit out to 200 yds with success but it isnt something Im interested in doing at a match. This sounds like a precision rifle match.

I was talking more of a USPSA multigun or 3 gun type stage set up.

Here is a link of a guy with a .22 GSG 5 getting it done

    Mike,
Any new matches or disciplines must be approved by the board. Please arrange a info meeting with Mark, Walt and myself to discuss matches, safety, co-ordinators etc. Mark and Walt are the IDPA advisory Committee members and must give their approval before I can make a recommendation to the board.

Ok, So how many people would be interested in competing in a precision tactical rimfire ( 22lr ) match very similar the one linked in the original post ?

I'd like to have an approximate number for Wayne / the board.

    Oneshotone,

I think we have approx. 10 people that would shoot this type of match. I'm sure there are others that would be interested once word gets out.

I will be meeting with Wayne this Sunday to discuss specifics.

I'm sure I'll need some help , Just not sure in what areas yet . I'll know more Sunday and can get a better handle on what needs to be done .

Thank you very much for the offer.

Yeah, I have a 10-22 that I need to get some use out of. I like Brian's idea of a CQB match, but I have added barrel with enough accuracy to participate at distance too. Count me in on both.

Gary, DA. The first match will be held Sat. March 21 at 9am on the centerfire range( prior to the military match ). I'll be at the range around 8am to set up.

As soon as I can get the rules , course of fire typed up I'll forward them to Lynn and she'll post them on the Web page.

    Mike,

    What does "Off Barrel" mean?

Also, do you have some examples of targets that we will be using?

    Thanks.

    Sabadoctor ,

"Off barrel" , we will be shooting off of 55 gallon barrels turned on thier side, this will be this matches obstical.

Each month we will have an obstical to shoot off of or around . Something to force the shooter to adapt to.

Bench and prone will remain a constant but the obstical will vary. Saw hosres , shooting sticks etc ... nothing to demanding.

The targets for this month will be paper , I'm working with Bill Erwin from APS in California to come up with some reactive targets .. Tums antacids at 50 yards, Daisy clays at 100 yds etc...

As far as the targets go.
I do have the PDF files of the targets on my laptop I'll post them here if I can figure out how.
Basically 1/2 inch dots at 50yds these are 1.5 inch 3 ring targets but we will only count the 1/2 inch dot for score.
3 ring 3 inch dots at 100 so 8pts= 3 inch ring ,9pts=2 inch ring ,10points=1 inch ring
    3 ring 6 inch dots at 200 so 8pts=6 inch, 9pts=4 inch ring, 10 pts=2inch ring

Here's a link showing how the guys in Calif. do it.

BTW: Bill Erwin ( the guy in the Neon green shirt ) is a native of Kingsport ... small world isn't it ?
